Paid performance opportunity for young people aged 16 to 25 with Vincent Dance Theatre
Acclaimed physical theatre company Vincent Dance Theatre (VDT) is looking for three young performers, aged 16 to 25, to join their ensemble to create a new dance theatre production this summer/autumn and to tour in November. If you can move, perform, sing, talk or play an instrument then they want to hear from you.
The production, called Virgin Territory, is created by acclaimed Choreographer/Director Charlotte Vincent with four of her brilliant adult collaborators. VDT need three young people to join the cast. The work explores what it's like to live as a young person today, how mainstream culture affects identify and self image, and how the internet impacts on personal choices and relationships.
VDT is looking for three talented young performances who can work collaboratively, offering up their stories and experiences to the creative process, and who want to experience being part of an established professional touring company. No previous performance or dance experience is necessary. They are looking for young people who are up for a challenge, willing to work hard and are able to come out of school/college for the rehearsal and production period (see below). VDT works across performance genres, and therefore they are looking for young people with a range of skills.
If selected, you will receive a professional wage for the weeks you are employed and we will provide accommodation, travel and expenses for you and your dedicated chaperone. You will be part of a cast that tours to London, Brighton, Glasgow, Warwick and Manchester in November 2016. The stage production will also be filmed and distributed across the UK in 2017 with you in it!
What happens at the workshop-audition:
You don't need to prepare any audition speeches or set dances. A dancer from the company will lead a group warm-up for 45 minutes, then Charlotte will lead a series of creative tasks through which you will generate some original material. You will need a willingness to improvise, give it a go and show them what you can do. The morning workshop-audition will be 3 - 3.5 hours long then Charlotte will decide who will stay for the afternoon to explore the work further. The sessions will give you an idea of how VDT make work, you'll get to play and move with (DBS checked) professional performers and the workshop - whether you are asked to stay for the afternoon or not - will be fun to take part in and add to your performance training experience.
How to apply:
If you'd like to come to the workshop-audition please email email@example.com with your name, age, phone number, email and a head shot of yourself. If you are aged 16 to 18 years old please include permission from your parent/guardian and their contact details. Please let us know your availability to rehearse the work (see dates below). VDT is interested in girls and boys applying to audition.
Along with your email, please tell VDT (on half a side of A4) why this project interests you and what skills you would bring to this performance (eg: you can play an instrument, perform slam poetry, rap, dance etc). There are no right or wrong answers, they just want to hear a bit about you. If you have any questions email firstname.lastname@example.org or call the VDT office on 01273 911 616. If you are unable to attend the whole day but still interested in the work/project, please contact Janine. To find out more about VDT please visit www.vincentdt.com. Deadline for applications is 5pm Friday 12 February 2016.
